Frosted glass, and something behind it
Frosted glass, a hissing television, and something that moves when you cannot see it.

The glass is frosted. Wiping it shows the room; it freezes over again, and each time it does, a girl with long black hair over her face is further out of the television: a hand, then climbing out, then crawling across the floor, then standing right behind the glass, where she slowly writes LET ME IN in blood with a finger and slams her hand against it: the glass cracks, and her nails screech as her bloody hand drags down it. Then her face hits the glass, it caves in, and one bloodshot eye looks around through the broken pane.
Halloween horror: blood, nails on glass and sudden moments. No flashing. Sound only if you turn it on.
She only moves when you can't see her.
Move the pointer over the glass to wipe the frost, then let it freeze over.

Build one interactive web page: A pane of frosted glass between you and a dark room with an old television hissing static. Wipe the frost to look; it freezes back over crystal by crystal, and water runs down from what you wiped. She only moves when you cannot see her: each time the glass freezes over she is further out of the screen, until she is right behind the glass, slowly writing LET ME IN in blood with one finger, then slamming her hand against it: the glass cracks into a web, and her nails screech as her bloody hand drags down it. Then her face hits the glass, the pane caves in, the frost falls off the broken shards, and one bloodshot eye looks around through them. When the frost takes her, the glass comes back clean. Set it on an invented business called Sampleton, with its own drawn or generated pictures and no one else's files. It suits: A Halloween event, a horror film or game launch, an escape room or a haunted attraction: anywhere a visitor has come to be scared a little. The wipe alone suits any slow reveal: a spa's steamed window, a winter product. Do not let it fail the way this kind of piece usually does: A scare that ambushes people, flashes or shakes forever. Here it says so up front, never flashes, moves only when the visitor has looked away, and with reduced motion the drips, the flicker, the slide, the shake and her eye's darting stop. Sound is off until you turn it on. It must work with the keyboard, on a phone, with reduced motion respected and no text under 12px. Tell me which libraries you chose and why.
Notes: when it suits, when it does not, how it fails
- When it suits
- A Halloween event, a horror film or game launch, an escape room or a haunted attraction: anywhere a visitor has come to be scared a little. The wipe alone suits any slow reveal: a spa's steamed window, a winter product.
- When it does not
- Anywhere a fright would be unwelcome or unkind, and anything a visitor needs to see at once: the whole point is that it makes you look, and wait.
- How it fails
- A scare that ambushes people, flashes or shakes forever. Here it says so up front, never flashes, moves only when the visitor has looked away, and with reduced motion the drips, the flicker, the slide, the shake and her eye's darting stop. Sound is off until you turn it on.
