Sampleton Letterpress

A word becomes a rhythm you can keep.

Tempo and beat

Remake it

Build 'Type in motion' for an invented Sampleton Letterpress. Let the visitor enter a short word and choose Elastic ripple, Perspective echo or Folded ribbon. Draw the actual letters with a distinct choreography for each mode, then offer Vermilion with warm paper, Cobalt with blue paper and Citron with bottle green. Keep Your word, Type choreography and Ink and paper immediately visible; put Tempo and Change the beat in a disclosure. Add Play, Pause, Reset and Keep the lettering as PNG. This plate is silent. Fit the complete word and intended motion within the available canvas at popup and full page sizes, retaining text of at least 12px and allowing narrow controls to scroll. Reduced motion starts with a still composition, and changing the word, palette or beat must remain useful while paused.
  1. Measure the visitor's word and derive its letter spacing and scale before applying motion, so permitted word lengths remain contained in the composition.
  2. Give each choreography its own letter transforms: displaced elastic letters, repeated perspective echoes or a folding ribbon arrangement, all driven by one simulation clock.
  3. Keep word, choreography and palette in explicit state. Tempo changes the clock rate; Change the beat advances its phase and requests a redraw even while paused.
  4. Use native labelled editing controls and a consistent playback row, with a PNG keep for the visitor's chosen lettering.
  5. Contain the composition on resize, start still under reduced motion and stop the frame loop when offscreen or unmounted. Preserve manual editing without starting autonomous motion.
Notes: when it suits, when it does not, how it fails
When it suits
Short expressive words and brand motion exploration.
When it does not
Paragraphs or essential navigation labels.
How it fails
Clipping or spelling out text to screen readers; an HTML word input remains intact.

Original procedural artwork for Sampleton Letterpress, an invented business. Drawn live with visitor-controlled state and no external media.
